    Default Anti Virus Setting Recommendations

Fresh install of ArcGIS10 on Windows 7 (32bit) and we are seeing slow behaviour - but the worst is Catalog. It appears that the antivirus (Symantec Endpoint) is scanning every FGDB table as Catalog attempts to refresh and it gets stuck in a loop. Catalog window in ARcMap is faster - maybe it skips the antivirus in some way??

Seems to be specific to Windows 7/ArcGIS10 as the same rules don't cause such a problem with XP/9.3.1. Can anybody supply a workaround/list of all the exclusions to ensure that filegeodatabase tables are not scanned?

We have found that antivirus software is engaged in scanning all types of GIS files every time you pan or zoom using ArcView 3 or ArcMap 10. This can cause your GIS software to hesitate when refreshing (we had hesitations lasting more that a minute and affect all users simultaneously). We believe we have found the fix for this by adjusting our antivirus software to not scan all files, or to place known GIS file extensions on the exception list. I am surprised that ESRI has not issued some sort of notification regarding this common problem.

Does anyone know what ESRI recommends in the way of exclusions? Directories, files, etc.

    Interested in this too...
Our ArcMAP is terribly slow since installing CA Total Defense.

Question Re: Anti Virus Setting Recommendations

We are seeing issues with the System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection, not allowing Table to Table and Table to GDB to work. If we uninstall this software we are back in business, problem is our Network re-installs this software once you uninstall. Has Esri come up with a Exclusion Whitepaper for Anti Virus? Our network team does not want to exclude everything in Desktop10.1 and everything in python27. The problem has been reproduced through the interface, through the toolbox, and through python.

I can't just exclude ArcMap.exe, because it calls a number of other files underneath, the same goes with python.exe both 32 and 64 bit.
