    Default Import GPX-files to ArcMap

    Hello,

I have downloaded several GPX-files which I want to load into ArcMap in any way.
I still tried some solutions which I found via the search but wasn't successfull.

I could not found anything within DataInteroperability,
Convert GPS Files (KML, GPX) to Shapefiles from ESRI downloads fails saying " Bad magic number[...]"
gpx2shp from sourcefourge fails saying command were corrupt (done as described on post #6 (http://www.cartotalk.com/index.php?showtopic=3629#6)

Maybe theres for ArcDesctop 10 a better simplier solution.
I have Desktop 10 Info Edition.

    Thanks for any help.

    Google http://www.google.ca/search?sourceid...=MSCOMM32.OCX+
or check DNR Garmin's FAQ, I suspect that you are not the first with this issue based upon your operating system

I've used DNR Garmin as a stand alone program to open gpx files and then save them as shapefiles on my older XP computer. The current DNR Garmin program does not work within ArcGIS 10 however, and won't be rewritten directly to do so. It is going open source and perhaps the open source replacement will work within ArcGIS.

GPS Trackmaker in the free version can open gpx but only the paid version saves to shapefile. The free version does save to a kml file so that might work.

If you cannot get either of those to work as stand alone GPS programs you can use QGIS to open gpx and save to shapefiles. It too is free but it is a larger progam, one that does GIS.

    Hello,

DNR Garmin was one of the first tools I was trying but there I got permanently errors. Com Error because no navigation system was found, when opening from file I couldn use "My Computer" becuase SGEDRV.dll failed loading (apart from that I have no problems with Windows and "My Computer") and then Garmin is Closing.
Next problem is to choose the feature type. Its a Streetmap so its Network of lines. Choosing Waypoints creates only junctions but not streets (with prohejction error), choosing track fails when savin as shapefiles there were no valid values. Choosing Route does also.

The Save to... ArcMap is not available, only save to file...
DNR Garmsin says I ArcMap 9.x or higher were requiered, but I have 10, so I think 10 is not supported

In Quantum GIS I couldn find the function to convert, I found only a dxf to shapefile converter and a option to import from gpx but only save as gpx too.... but I fail using this function, when importing as layer there are no attributes importet after this

doesnt thought that this is so much heavy to find a "simple" gpx to shp converter for free
I found the program ExpertGPS doing this, but its just a trial

I don't know if any of this will help you out but here's a few items.

When opening DNR Garmin as a stand alone program it always gives the com error if there is no GPS connected. Just hit OK and proceed. If your data is projected set a projection in DNR Garmin to match. Save as Arcview shapefile projected.

For QGIS, I suggest setting a projection in the project to match your data. I typically add some data first that helps me see if the GPS data comes in correctly. After adding the gpx data right click on it in the table of contents and choose Save As. In the format dropdown choose ESRI shapefile and go with the other defaults.

Check the Patrol Data Capture Template for a script tool to upload GPX files into ArcGIS 10.

    Hi,
I always have GPX files and use FME software to convert them to shapefiles or any other ESRI format. if you have this software you can use it, too easy. you can download free trial version form http://www.safe.com/fme/fme-technology/fme-desktop/

    thanks

    1. Open the gpx file in Google Earth
    2. Save the Google Earth layer as a kml file
    3. Import the kml into ArcMap.

    or try...... http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/...8-AD1A2A2D5BD6

This will do a lot of native formats as well.... maybe the conversion to gpx was problematic. Have you tried GPSBabel? http://www.gpsbabel.org/

    Hello,

I have some .gpx-Files, which I want to import to ArcGIS 10.2.
Unfortunately it does not work. I already tried the tool "GPX to feature", Add X & Y data and kml/kmz to layer.

Now I downloaded the "DNR GPS" programme. After reading the .gpx-file, I tried to "save to a file/database", but it is not showed in ArcMap. Even "Zoom to layer" is not working.

Any recommendations what I can do next? Or any hints, what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks!

Complete beginner here, so take with-a-grain-of-salt.

All I needed: a shapefile with 112 waypoints for the state emergency group.

I created my first ever gis-thingy using the on-line site which happily accepted several gps files while setting up layers.

Then, I found that I could not get a 'shapefile' back! Whatever that is

Hours later, I manage to get v10 running on my netbook and found that I could grab my on-line map and presto!

    Done.

    Returning to holiday routine.

Guys. go to the IRMA (NPS) site. https://irma.nps.gov/App/

    Search on term GPX

Install. It will natively "see" GPX files in Catalog window or ArcCatalog. Drag and Drop. read support. Not for uploading to GPS, but for downloading and instant viewing - its the bomb.
