Take a look at the footer in this mod of the basic map viewer:

Let me know if you want more info about how we (non-programmers) did it.

Question Mobile application access from PMG @ 1.4.1 Template... Where has it gone?

    Greetings Maps Gallery fans,

I'm implementing a few of these Map Galleries with the latest template, 1.4.1, but I can't find how to display access, or download of the apps for mobile access (similar to what our friends in Texas; Baxter County have done) anywhere. Would someone please point me on the way to activating this functionality?

    Many thanks in advance.

Question Re: Public Maps Gallery template version 1.4.1: Working with ArcGIS Online for Orgs

    Greetings Public Maps Gallery team,

In the official page for the template, at the very bottom of the template description, there is a statement saying:
"This template is not intended for ArcGIS Online Organization Subscription accounts when they become available."
However, I have this working with our beta version of AGO for OS. The statement above would seem to indicate that the Public Maps Gallery template would no longer work with the final version of AGO for OS. Would you please elaborate if this indeed will be the case, and why?

    Many thanks in advance.

Exclamation Map centre is lost during "Fullscreen View" viewing...

    Greetings PMG team,

I have noticed that when I click on the "Fullscreen View" button whilst viewing a map, the map is no longer centred in the correct location. Is there a way of adjusting a parameter within the template so that the map centre is maintained whilst switching the map view?

    Many thanks in advance.

Miguel - we put the disclaimer in because at the time that we created the PMG template we couldn't be sure how ArcGIS Online for Organizations would behave with the Gallery. Our main concern was with the Group ID - we didn't know if a Group ID for an Organization account would remain fixed (unchanging). But now the ArcGIS Online team has assured us that "a group ID is valid for the lifetime of the group." Once you create the group, the ID remains the same. Which is great news for PMG template users.

The Team cautions that if you delete the group then recreate it and name it the same, the Group may appear the same as before to the end-user but the Group ID will be different. This applies to both the Personal and Organizations side of ArcGIS Online. If this happens to the Group used by the PMG template, you'll need to edit the config file with the new Group ID.

Thank you for bringing this question to the forum. Others have been asking similar questions. We will remove the disclaimer.

Please enter a group ID in the required settings config.

I have done that....not sure what else to do. I would like to make a Public Gallery Page. I even made changes to the settings.content file. I followed exactly what was in the quick start quide....

    Hi David,

Does your group have any web maps in it?

Can you post your config file and I'll see if I can diagnose the problem.

    Thanks

This is currently not a config option so you'll have to add it into the HTML or in the side links yourself. All the links and images of should be in the previous version of the template. 1.3

    Hi Miguel,

Yes, that should be possible. It's not currently an option but I'll see if I can get that included in an update. It would just have to find the center of the map before the resize and then reset the center after.

    Thanks

    Default Android App issues...

We have been slowly developing our site and have made a few of our maps public and such for testing purposes; they may be seen here:

    http://www.bexar.org/maps

That being said - we are having some rather significant issues with the Android App.

    1) The App fills 'no fill' polygons. I have not tried to fill it with 100% transparency yet but that may be a work around.

    2) Points are being drawn from the services which should not. We fine tune all of our symbology but we are getting a lot of red circles with black outlines scattered across the map. I do not have an android phone in office for testing and will on Friday and will provide more information at that point. And of course - there may be a workaround but simply - features not being displayed by the service are being displayed by the app. I presuppose this has to do with features in feature classes not being given symbol (b/c we don't want them drawn anyway) and then the App defaults to the red fill black outline symbol - kind-of like when it fills no fill polys. Again - I may be able to prescribe an 'all else' symbol w/ 100% transparency as above.

    3) We are having problems similar to past iphone issues where the client selects a map on the public map gallery and then is directed always to the first map viewed and unless the user goes into the app and joins our group and then selects the maps off-site without the public maps gallery, the user may only then select a new map and the features will draw. Otherwise the map often comes up blank.

We tested the android app with the site on a Galaxy S and Galaxy SII (4G)

I will test the two workarounds but this probably needs to be fixed in the app as it draws fine for apple.

    Thanks again, DZ

Question PMG template version 1.4.1 - Does the app. recognises what viewer is set within...

    Greetings PMG team,

Does the app. recognises what viewer is set within a group? My group has a mixture of web maps set to be viewed with the AGOL Viewer, AGXOL, and one in AGXOL presentation mode. However, when I point my PMG to the group, all maps are available through the default AGOL viewer only.
This seems to work, as the folks from Ofallon show this works on their implementation of a PMG. In their PMG, the second map in the first page does have the following URL type -> http://explorer.arcgis.com/?open=<webmap id>

Am I correct in assuming that the app senses what viewer a map uses and generates the appropriate URL? Or is this something that needs to be set up manually in the configuration somewhere? If the latter is the case, would you please point me in the right direction on where to set up?

Many thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi,
I have couple of questions. I have my GIS data organized using ESRI's Local Government Information Model in ArcSDE 10SP3. I will be using ArcGIS server to publish data from ArcSDE.

Question1: If I use Public Maps Gallery template to publish maps coming from my ArcGIS server, how are the client requests passed through? If an end user hits the map page, will the request go to ArcGIS.com then routed to my ArcGIS server?

Question2: Is it possible to configure multiple searches (address, parcel, subdivision) in public maps gallery? Please let me know if there are any documentation on this topic.

    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks

Question Re: Public Maps Gallery template version 1.4 --Opening post

    Greetings from Esri UK team,

On the PMG pages for the latest release, 1.4.1, the first line of the changes for this version reads "Support for using the template with private ArcGIS.com groups and items". Would you please explain how would this implemented?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Miguel,

It doesn't. It doesn't know which viewer to use unfortunately. That may be something you can set with some javascript coding. It would have to detect which kind of ArcGIS item it is and then use the appropriate URL for that item. Currently, it just opens with one viewer and opens external urls without a viewer.

    Thanks

    1. Yes, I believe that's how it works. This template uses ArcGIS web maps and items so that information is coming from ArcGIS.com and then gets routed to your server.

    2. You may be able to do this but it would require javascript coding to the template. You should be able to replace the search locator with another or add another level to it.

    Thanks

    Hi Miguel,

1.4.1 adds support for private groups and private items. So, if you have a group or item on ArcGIS.com that is private, not public, you can use the group or item with this template by generating an ArcGIS.com token which allows access to the private group/item from the URL which you are hosting the template. The tokens are tied to an account, URL and expiration date.

You can use the tool that I've created to create a token or you can generate the token yourself using the ArcGIS.com REST API.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks

    Hey David,

I dropped those files in and it ran fine for me. It didn't ask for a group ID.

    Hey Tarig,

Were you able to fix it? I looked using chrome and IE and everything seemed to be loading correctly.

    Hi,
In PMGT, is it possible to show attributes from multiple feature classes (parcels, school district, city limits) in the same pop-up window, when the user clicks on the map? Map is created using .MSD file utilizing data from SDE and published through ArcGIS server & PMGT.

If yes, Is it controlled by the Identify tool options in .MSD file?

    Thanks in Advance.

Question Re: Public Maps Gallery template version 1.4 --Accessing additional groups

Greetings from Esri UK, PMG team and forum folk,

I was wondering if it would be possible to access additional groups from the right side pane?

It would make a great addition to the gallery, since one would be able to access related groups to the opening (main) one. Would you consider such an implementation for future versions?

Many thanks and cheers for now.

Hi VJ. I've used the Chrome - Identify template to show attributes from multiple feature classes. You might check out the Chrome - Identify template.

It would make a great addition to the gallery, since one would be able to access related groups to the opening (main) one. Would you consider such an implementation for future versions?

Many thanks and cheers for now.
I'll see if we can implement that. It sounds like a useful feature. Thanks for the feedback!

Default Add new legend to 1.3 template

I have the 1.3 template customized and set up but would like to add the new legend features. Is there any easy way to add them to 1.3?

    Hi Leslie,

Unfortunately, the 1.3 can't just be upgraded. You'll have to download the 1.4 version and configure it. It's much easier to configure 1.4 though.

    Thanks

    Hello,

First, congratulations for this web template, will be very useful in the company where I work.
I have a suggestion about the template and a couple of questions I hope you can help me; I have attached two images where I mark each question with a letter.
First, we had used characters like accents or umlauts and there is a failure and do not appear correctly on "Index.html" (A)
The last question is where we can change the labels of some elements, because we want to do our template in Spanish:
    - The bar text "Search Maps" (B)
    - The bar text "Locate Maps" and "Switch Basemap" (C)
    - The text "Layers", "Legend" and buttons "Legend and" About "(D)

    Hi Jennifer,

Great feedback. I'll look into why those characters are not appearing correctly.

    "Search Maps" is in /scripts/home/local.js
"Locate an address" is in map.html
"Switch Basemap" is apart of the basemap dijit. http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/jav...mapgallery.htm You should be able to set the locale and have it automatically changed. http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/jav...calization.htm
"Layers", "Legend" and buttons "Legend and" About " are in map.html

I think we could definitely improve this template for i18n support. We might be able to do that in an update and put all the UI elements into a config file.

    Thanks!

If we are talking about the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch apps, I would like to mention FriendCaller VoIP here. I use it daily on my iPhone 4S and I m pretty much pleased. You might try as well. http://fc.vc/infographic-fc This is much comprehensive and packed in one location.

    Hi Jennifer,

Something like that should be possible. If the arcgis.com item is a web application that is not a web map, I would have it open in modified copy of the map.html file which takes the web application's URL and puts it into an iframe inside the map.html file. Some HTML/Javascript will be involved to do this. It seems like you're trying to put a web application URL inside of the simple viewer template and the best way I can think of to do that would be to use an iframe.

    Hope that helps. Thanks

    Default Problem customizing Search

    Greetings;
I have created two address locators, one for address points and one for streets; I have combined them into a composite locator and published as a service in ArcGIS server. The spatial reference of participating locators are in state plane and the composite address locator in GCS_WGS_1984. Then in PMG template, I changed “pmgConfig.locatorURL” variable in “settings.optional.js” to point to my published locator service.

Now, when I access my PMG maps, and start typing in few characters in search box, I can see the autocomplete feature showing the related entries as I type. When I click on the search result to go to the location, the map pans to the coast of Africa and when I zoom out, I do see a point marked in the correct place. I don’t know why the location is correctly marked but the map pans to a wrong place. I appreciate your help in this matter.

FYI, I used “42105 churchpoint rd, gonzales” as my search criteria. You can see my locator returns X,Y very similar to ESRI’s built in locator. The spatial reference of both of the following locators are 4326.

I am having the same thing happen. I've tried multiple locator services and always end up with the marker drawn in the correct location, but the map has changed the extent. Anyone have any ideas?

In the showResults function, the locator converts the point and extent separately from geographic to web mercator and then sets the extent and adds the graphic. It sounds like maybe the extent is already in web mercator or maybe the extent is not getting returned from the locator. It might be good to check and see if the locator is returning all columns and results and that the extent (west, south, east, north) is set. Can you console.log() an extent that is returned and see what it says?

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Matt for your help. Yes, my locator is not outputting extents. I don't know of a way to create such a locator, I haven't noticed any options related to extents while creating my locator. I've used the standard menu driven way to create my locator. Is there a way to make the locator output extents in addition to X,Y?

I was able to find a workaround for my issue. I changed the following lines in ShowResults function in layout.js. I've used the X,Y that my locator is returning and came up with a buffer around the point for the extents.
    var xminNew = parseFloat(geocodeResults[numResult].location.x-0.011);
    var yminNew = parseFloat(geocodeResults[numResult].location.y-0.011);
    var xmaxNew = parseFloat(geocodeResults[numResult].location.x+0.011);
    var ymaxNew = parseFloat(geocodeResults[numResult].location.y+0.011);
This seems to work for now.

    Regards,
    Vijai

    Hi Vijai,

Yep, that will work! I'm not sure how to get a custom locator to output extents. I know for our locator, in order to get the extent North, West, South, East, with the addressToLocations function, you have to pass "*" to get the extent. Maybe it's the same with your locator?

    Code:
    .addressToLocations(address,["*"]);

    Hello!

First, Thank you for the map gallery! It has made displaying our maps and applications soo much better and simpler for the public! I have two questions: I need my applications to open in a separate window when the users view them (cannot find where to do this!!). Some people find it difficult to navigate back to the gallery. Next, in the elections gallery (which only is using a simple viewer) my zoom arrows are not working?? I am not a programer, but have gained limited experience with all our online apps we have now.

Hi Jacqueline, Thanks for the feedback!

In settings.optional.js, there should be an option to open all gallery items in a new window. Try setting it to true. Let me know if that works for you.

    Code:
// Open gallery thumbnail links in a new window/tab
    pmgConfig.openGalleryNewWindow = false;
The 2nd problem is a bit trickier. It seems as if the map has no levels of detail set. I think the zoom bar isn't working correctly on arcgis.com either. http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/vi...8ea7986186b313

Is there any way you can add levels of detail to the basemap? If not, i'll have to do some creative thinking.

    Thanks

Thanks for the help! I realized I hadn't updated to1.4.1 yet!?!?! So, the option of opening maps in a separate window wasn't there before. And in part to my second question, we were trying to keep those maps really simple and the scroll still works. So as long as I know why, I can figure a work around! Thanks again!

I have a few map services that I enabled security on in ArcGIS server, but they won't allow me to view them in the gallery. The funny thing is, it works on my ios device and not the pc. Any suggestions on what the cause could be?

    Hey Bill,

It might be something with the identity manager. Can you try changing the API URL in the html documents to use 2.8? That might do the trick. I would say 3.0 but I think 3.0 requires some more tweaks to get to work. I see it's using 2.7 right now. Maybe that will fix the issue of logging in.
