Default Cannot connect to my Java ArcGIS Server through ArcCatalog

This is my first server roll out and I have successfully started services but I cannot log on through ArcCatalog that's on my desktop. I am using the Java interface in a virtual machine provided by oracle. I have searched high and low for some sort of answer but I am unable to find one. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Charles Hagens

    Hy,
    could you make these tests:

Did you get for both test a valid result?
Did you have ArcCatalog installed on your ArcGIS Server? Could you try with "localhost"?

You could also make the tests with the ip-address instead of the hostname.

I have pinged the network through command prompt and it comes up valid but will not come up through my internet explorer or windows explorer. I do not have ARCcatalog on my virtual box.

    Just to clarify...

At 10.0.x, it is a known issue that ArcGIS Desktop running on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 cannot connect to 10.0.x Linux or Solaris ArcGIS Servers. This is because there is a difference between the versions of NTLM support in Mainwin and Windows 7.

    Just an FYI....

It cannot find the website but I can open the server in the windows explorer. I have been working on this for the past week and its starting to get frustrating. I feel like I am one or two steps away.

I had a similiar issue and ran a window process monitoring tool - started the tool right at the connection point when I got the generic error message - and then stopped it right away - so I could capture all processes in that time and see what file was missing (which I what I thought the issue was and it was in a way).

What I found was that a directory structure that ArcCatalog wanted to put a connection file into was not allowing me access when the connection was being created. I went and created the exact path that was needed and also gave it correct rights - afterwards I was able to connection with no issue.

In the monitoring tool I saw (I took out some dir names because they were sensitive information but I think that you can still get the idea):
    Operation CreateFile
    Results: NAME NOT FOUND
    Path: C:\Windows\CSC\v2.0.6\namespace\...\...\..\AppData\ESRI\Desktop10.0

Might want to try monitoring - I bet that you are running into something similiar.

I was going to attached the monitoring tool that I used in case you wanted to use it - but it was tool large. I am sure that one can be found on line.

I have same trouble - ArcGIS Desktop running on Windows 7 cannot connect to 10.0.x Linux ArcGIS Servers. Do you know any ideas how solve it? Use Windows XP SP 3?

Open "http://server:8399/arcgis/rest/services" in internet browser - OK
    Open " \\server" in your Windows-Explorer - OK

I tested with the ip-address instead of the hostname.

But I can connect in ArcGIS Desktop as user!

    Any idea?
