Default Supress file location in metadata

When viewing the item description of a feature class, the full file path name is visible under Resource Details>ArcGIS Item Properties>Location. I need to supress that full path name in order to distribute the data publicly. However, I can find nowhere to modify this within the ArcGIS 10 metadata editor, either under Resource>Details or elsewhere. Am I overlooking something, or is this parameter entirely automated? Time to go to an external metadata editor?

Despite its drawbacks, v. 9.3.1 allowed this control.

I find this frustrating. Did you ever find a solution to this problem?
