    Default Problems with ArcGIS.com?

I have been having serious issues with ArcGIS online starting later afternoon yesterday. It is loading my groups in very slow and when I click on the map I get an "error X" and the maps will not load. I tried in firefox and explorer, I also tried on other computers in my office...no dice. Is anyone else experiencing problems?

Have you cleared the browser cache?

I did and that did not work. I found a work around. I have to hit the refresh button. If I don't I just get a blank screen. Not sure what happened, this worked perfectly until Friday. I have lots of other folks from my staff using these maps and they are experiencing the same problems.

I too am having difficulty with GIS today. I am trying to upload CSV data to create a new layer, however once I import the data none of the points are showing. I tried this in both Firefox (13.0) and Safari (4.0.4) browsers. What can I do to get rid of this problem? ArcGIS Explorer Online was working fine for me over the past couple weeks.

    Thanks

Are you uploading to ArcGIS Explorer Online or ArcGIS.com? Can you share your file here?

    thanks,

    Mike

Oh, it's ArcGIS Explorer Online that I am trying to upload to and am experiencing problems with. I received the email about the updates which are going into effect on Thursday and realized maybe that is why I am having trouble?

Anyway I've tried to copy and paste just the top 7 rows into the "Import Content" window. When I complete the import process, the data points do not show.

I'm ultimately trying to get a layer of the data on the Melospiza melodia(Song Sparrow) and then I will import a second layer of the Zonotrichia albicollis(White-Capped Sparrow)

I can see your problem. Seems like it could be a bug. I exported your Excel file to a CSV file and was able to upload that file. When I exported to CSV, I did notice that Excel added an extra comma to the end of each record. I had to manually remove it in Notepad to import the CSV into the map.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for checking the situation out for me. I cannot see the comma's you speak of when the document is in a csv file. If you have any suggestion for how to fix this please let me know. Otherwise I will continue to try and fiddle around with it and see if there are other ways to get around this issue.

    Thanks!

Just figured out how to get the data to upload! When I cleared the blank column at the end, the data uploaded. I also discovered how to edit the commas in textEdit. Thanks for your help!

I did a Save As from Excel and saved as a CSV file. Then I opened the file in Notepad and removed the comma at the end. Then it worked fine. This bug seems to be specific to Explorer Online. I was able to directly add the CSV file to the ArcGIS.com map viewer.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Our office has been having the same issue with the page not loading the first time. We've just been clicking refresh to get them to work.

We are also experiencing some issues with certain layers disappearing in our Web Apps once the user zooms in to a certain extent. And when they zoom back out all of the layers disappear. It consistently happens in Internet Explorer 8, Chrome 19.0.1084.56 m, and Firefox as well. It's frustrating.

And has anyone else seen curves flattening out in feature services?

Can you share some maps or apps along with a series of steps that we can use to reproduce the problem?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,

Here's a link to a Web App we just put together today. It's a basic map of the new rail system going in on O'ahu. As a test, with your mouse wheel or the slider slowlyzoom into the two stations furthest west (East Kapolei & UH West Oahu). On the 3rd zoom you should see the Rail Line and Rail Stations disappear from the map although they still appear in the legend. Now back out one step. Everything has disappeared.

You can test the Web Map if you like. There are scale dependencies set for some of the layers but they are not reflected in the errors we are seeing.

    Jason.

I can see the problem. We'll have to look at it. It seems like the template is not following the scale dependency of the layer. I assume that if you remove scale dependencies, it will work, although I didn't try it.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Mike,

After hours of thorough testing on Chrome I've come up with a few consistent results. Each test added or subtracted a single scale dependency setting and then previewed the results in the ESRI "Basic Viewer" Web App template. There was no cache-clearing between each of these tests.

Web Maps designed in ArcGIS Online that have multiple layers will function properly in ESRI's out-of-the-box Web Apps as long as only one layer has a scale dependency set. After the second layer is given a scale dependency there can be issues. I'd like to be able to provide a list of all of the issues but they can be so random that even a test performed the same way twice may produce different results. The most obvious problem would be missing layers. These could be ones with scale dependencies set or they might not have even been altered in any way at all in the table of contents. Of the missing layers that did have scales set, if you zoom to an extreme (far in or far out) you may be able to get it working again but others may stop working. Additional issues included graphical lag in panning and zooming (features appeared to hang in the air then snap back to the ground) and what appeared to be a delay in settings by up to two tests. What I mean by that is a setting toggled in Test #3 may not appear to work until Test #5. This issue is harder to pin down and may only be a misperception of the more random results.

We would like to know if this is something we should to take to the Tech Support level or just keep an eye on the forums?

    Thanks,
    Jace

    Jason,

This should be fixed next week when we update our JavaScript API. Perhaps check at the end of the week to see if all is ok for you. If not, let us know.

    Thanks,

    Mike

This bug has been fixed. Thanks for all the help with this issue on the forum and for the services provided by the ESRI Technical Support staff.
